Beyond Technologies - PETAKOM Mobility Program to Indonesia
In a significant stride towards global academic collaboration, the Persatuan Mahasiswa Teknologi Komputer (PETAKOM) from Faculty of Computing at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) launched the "MELANGKAUI TEKNOLOGI: PROGRAM MOBILITI KE INDONESIA." This groundbreaking initiative enabled 25 UMPSA students and 1 staff to embark on a transformative journey to Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) in Indonesia.
The program began with virtual sessions from 8 to 12 July 2024, laying the foundation for an engaging and insightful experience. The opening day introduced the Student Mobility Program under the theme "Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: Student Mobility Program Driving Sustainable Development Goals," offering a comprehensive overview of the program's objectives and the value of global mobility in education. Discussions focused on Communication and an Introduction to Sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students learned about the critical role of effective communication in promoting sustainability and how the SDGs serve as a blueprint for global development efforts. Attention then shifted to Technology for Sustainable Development, highlighting the role of innovation in achieving sustainability. Students explored various technological advancements contributing to sustainable practices and solutions. The theme of Business for Sustainable Development followed, exploring how enterprises can support global goals and emphasizing the need for businesses to adopt sustainable practices and the impact of corporate social responsibility. The week concluded with Design for Sustainable Development, emphasizing creative solutions in sustainability and encouraging students to think outside the box about how design can drive positive change.
The second week marked the beginning of the on-site experience. Accompanied by Dr. Azida, the students traveled to Indonesia, with the first batch arriving on 14 July 2024 and the second on 15 July 2024. The day featured a Student Sharing Session on Steganography by students Logathepan and Izzah Irdina, showcasing their expertise and the practical applications of this technology. It also included a Welcoming Ceremony with the UMN Rectorate and Management, a Campus Tour, and bonding activities with 11 UMN Buddies. The students attended classes on Indonesian Language and Culture, enhancing their understanding of the local context and fostering cross-cultural communication.
The students visited Bayah Village on 17 July 2024 for an International CSR project. They received an introduction from Abah Lala, followed by workshops and discussions on Humanity Projects related to Disaster and Risk Management. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into community-driven sustainability efforts. The day concluded with a delightful dinner at RM Ayam Cianjur, Raskasbitung, where students enjoyed traditional Indonesian cuisine and reflected on their experiences.
On 18 July 2024, students participated in a workshop with the Faculty of Business, including an Entrepreneurship session and a Cooking Demo of Indonesian cuisine. UMPSA student Ik Shim assisted in preparing the traditional dish Ayam Rica-rica, showcasing how cultural exchange can inspire innovative business ideas. The afternoon was dedicated to a workshop with the Faculty of Communication on Sustainability Communication, where students learned effective strategies for promoting sustainability through media and public relations.
The group enjoyed a recreational day at Ancol Jakarta and Dufan on 19 July 2024, experiencing various thrilling rides and attractions. This excursion provided a well-deserved break and an opportunity for the students to bond and unwind. The day began with a student sharing session on Ethical Hacking by Ik Shim and Logathepan, followed by a workshop with the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics on Robotics and Big Data. These sessions underscored the importance of cybersecurity and data analysis in today's technological landscape. After lunch, a session with the Faculty of Arts and Design focused on Mobile Photography, allowing students to showcase their creativity through photo competitions around the UMN campus. The day ended with another sharing session on Image Forensics by Shakirah Izzati and Azraq, illustrating the practical applications of forensic science in technology.
The final day featured a heartfelt farewell ceremony before the students returned to Malaysia. This ceremony was a testament to the strong connections formed between the UMPSA and UMN communities. The entire program was a resounding success, thanks to the efforts and cooperation of UMN, the Faculty of Computing, and UMPSA.
The "MELANGKAUI TEKNOLOGI: PROGRAM MOBILITI KE INDONESIA" not only provided UMPSA students with valuable academic and cultural experiences but also imparted several key lessons. Students gained a broader understanding of global issues and the importance of international collaboration in addressing them. The program emphasized the critical role of sustainability in various fields, including technology, business, communication, and design. Hands-on workshops and community engagement activities equipped students with practical skills in areas such as disaster management, ethical hacking, robotics, and mobile photography. Immersion in Indonesian culture through language classes, cooking demos, and community visits fostered cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Bonding activities with UMN students and faculty facilitated the creation of lasting relationships and professional networks. These connections can lead to future collaborations and opportunities for both personal and academic growth.
The "MELANGKAUI TEKNOLOGI: PROGRAM MOBILITI KE INDONESIA" highlighted the significance of international academic exchange in shaping well-rounded, globally aware, and socially responsible individuals.
