Industrial Talk: Information Security Legal Issues and Risk Management

An Industrial Talk was successfully organized by the Faculty of Computing (FK) in collaboration with Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (CAIDaS) on 14 May 2025, starting at 2:00 PM, at the Faculty of Computing.

The session focused on the important and timely topic of Information Security Legal Issues and Risk Management, addressing key concerns in today’s increasingly digital and interconnected world. The talk featured two distinguished guest speakers: Mr. Zainol Zainuddin, Chief Technology Officer of NTT Data eCommerce Solutions, and Ts. Izuddin Abdullah, Co-Founder of Tech Tarik Think Tank. The event was moderated by Prof. Madya Dr. Mohamed Ariff Ameedeen, who guided the discussion with thoughtful questions and ensured the session remained engaging and informative.

During the talk, the speakers shared valuable insights into the legal challenges related to data protection, cybersecurity regulations, and the responsibilities of organizations in safeguarding information. They also discussed real-world examples of security breaches and how proper risk management practices could prevent or mitigate such incidents. The speakers emphasized the importance of being proactive in identifying potential security threats and understanding legal obligations, especially for those entering the technology and data industries.

The session was attended by a number of students and staff, all of whom showed great interest in the subject matter. Many took the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with the speakers, reflecting a strong awareness of the growing importance of cybersecurity and legal compliance in professional environments.

Overall, the event was a success in raising awareness and deepening understanding of critical issues related to information security. It provided an excellent platform for knowledge sharing between industry experts and the academic community, and served as a valuable learning experience for all participants.
