PEKAN, 7 June 2026 – A total of 42 students from the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully participated in the Competency-based Software Engineering (Requirement to Testing) course held on 6-7June 2026 at the Faculty of Computing, UMPSA Pekan.
The two-day programme was conducted by a team of experienced instructors comprising Ts. Azma Abdullah, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Rohani Abu Bakar, Dr. Noorlin Mohd Ali, and Ts. Azlina Zainuddin. The course was designed to strengthen students’ competencies in software engineering by providing hands-on exposure to the complete software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to system testing.
Throughout the programme, participants engaged in a series of practical workshops, including Requirement Analysis, System Design, Database Design, and Testing & Validation. Using a competency-based TVET approach, students were guided through real-world software engineering practices, enabling them to produce essential software artefacts such as requirements specifications, UML diagrams, database schemas, test cases, and validation reports.
In addition to enhancing technical knowledge, the programme also fostered important professional skills such as communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, requirements elicitation, analytical thinking, and teamwork. These competencies are highly valued by industry and play a vital role in preparing graduates for the demands of the modern workplace.
The programme concluded with a group presentation session, during which participants showcased the outcomes of their projects and demonstrated their understanding of end-to-end software engineering practices. The course is expected to contribute significantly towards producing industry-ready graduates equipped with both technical expertise and professional competencies in line with the aspirations of UMPSA and the national TVET agenda.
